SEVEN HOUSEPLANTS TO FILL YOUR SPACE
In honor of National houseplant awareness day, I offer you these few suggestions for a greener happier home.Personally, I have a soft spot for succulents, but the list goes on and on, so here are a few leafy gems that I also love to grow.
1. Spider Plant, Chlorophytum comosum - Perfect for a hanging basket or to plant as a companion to a larger upright specimen.
2. Philodendron - Super easy and will grow anywhere, lots of varieties but one of my favorites is the Xanadu or Araceae xanadu.
3. Camellia japonica - Waxy, dark leaves and beautiful blooms in more colors than you can imagine. Many think of these as large outdoor shrubs but they make great container plants for those dark corners, plus you get a lovely flower.
4. Anthurium or Peace Lily - Perfect for that tropical loo. Flowers bloom white, pink, purple red and mottled greens. They take indirect light but will survive in the shade.
5. Ficus - Make my list twice cuz there just so nice. Rubber Tree Ficus elastica - I dare you to kill this bad boy. Thick leathery leaves that take deep shade try the ‘Rubra’ for great colors.
6. Ficus benjamina or Weeping fig - Delicate and upright light green leaves sparkle in light sunlight. The trick to these beauties is to never move them from whence you originally placed them.Set it and forget it.
7. Diffenbachia or Dumb cane - Tropical upright with huge varigated leaves. Take full sun or partial shade super easy to propagate and keep alive.
