SEVEN NUANCES OF THE LUNAR NEW YEAR
It has come to be known as the Chinese New Year, in North America and even those whom have no ties to the country of its origin still feel the pull of its presence. So if you chose to celebrate on January, 25th 2020 here are a few customs you may want to partake in.
1. Starting on the New Moon with The Spring Festival, The Lunar New Year includes 15 Days of celebrations and officially ends at the rising of the Full Moon.
2. Celebrated by millions of people across the globe, this holiday is cause for the biggest annual mass migration of humans in the entire world.
3. New moon, new year this holiday is a chance to let luck come into your life and you can start by eating “ lucky foods” such as : Fish, Garlic, Dumplings (shrimp or chicken) Turnips, Oranges, Meatballs & Pomegranates.
4. If you can’t eat good luck why not drink it? Start your day with a tea ceremony and don’t for get white wine, and rice wines like Jeou and my favorite, Tsingtoa beer.
5. When looking for luck be sure to stay away from these Taboos: Crying, Referencing the past or death, Using bad language and carrying any dept come the New Year.
6. Sticking with tradition here are a few that will bring fortune and good luck all year long: Do not wash your hair or do any cleaning on the day of the New Year, At the stroke of Midnight, New Years Eve, open all your windows and doors to allow the luck to pour in, Don’t forget to wish “Good luck and good fortune to all.” Ware new clothing.
7. The Year of the Metal Rat. The first of all the Zodiac signs those born under this animal are said to be the luckiest of them all. Rats signal new beginnings, wealth and prosperity. You would be wise to align yourself with a rat if you don’t know one maybe this holiday will be the perfect opportunity.
