Volume #2 The Aztec Goddess

The air is dark, and dank. I can hear water dripping, it echoes off the enclosed walls. Dorian is tied mercilessly by the arms, and legs. He is sweaty, and filthy. His long blond hair hangs limp, as does he. These bonds have nothing to do with passion, at least not for Dorian. His body is too weak to hold himself up any longer, and he listlessly dangles from the rusty chains that bind his wrists. He has no superhuman power to set him free. He is weak and fragile like a human, because he is one. He slowly lifts his chin, our eyes meet and time stands still. Although they’re dull and bloodshot, I can see a glimmer of the fire-opal blue that should be. I try to take a step toward him. I want him. I need him. The temptation is overwhelming, but I am halted. Something binds me, thwarting me from reaching my desire.
“Catalina... Catalina!” In front of me, Dorian is screaming, ripping me from my vision.
My blurry eyes clear and I can see that he is about to pull free from his bonds, effectively trashing my dominatrix den.
“Wait,” I sputter. “You’ve already broken one, you don’t know how hard it is to get these things replaced.”
“What just happened?” Dorian asks as I quickly unlock his ankles.
“What are you talking about?”
“You just zoned out. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You look like you’ve just seen a ghost. I need to know if you are okay. I can’t bear to see you suffer.”
“I’m perfectly fine, Dorian. I just... I just think you should go. Now!” The last came out as a command.
“I don’t understand, only a moment ago you were riding me like a wild stallion. Now you’re kicking me out of your home? What just happened, Cat? What were you thinking about that made you change your mind so suddenly? You need to know I am here for you. You need only open your heart to me.”
“I told you. Together we are just too complicated.”
“Only you make this complicated. Being together is as natural as breathing. I know you can feel that. Let me show you.” He takes me into strong, sure arms. “Just let go, Cat. Let me take care of you for a change, and you will see that we were meant for one another. You believed in us once. It matters little how long ago it was.”
I collapse into his embrace and let myself go. I close my eyes and release a huge sigh of relief. When I do, the vision of Dorian chained to the dark, rough walls, washes over me again. I have to push him away.
“Not yet, Dorian. I’m not ready for this. I need you to leave,” I whisper pathetically. I can’t even force myself to look into his eyes. I know that if I do, I won’t be able to let him go. Right now that is exactly what I need him to do.
“I will do as you ask, but you need to know something. I will not pursue you forever. I can only be treated as the fool for so long.”
I look up in time to see the hurt and truth in his words, but I am too ashamed to respond. As I listen to his footsteps fade away I desperately hope I don’t really get what I wish for.
